Rudimentary Café
  • Sally Browne Landscapes had the exciting opportunity to collaborate and design a kitchen garden in the heart of Footscray
  • Clients wanted to create a café that was relocatable after 5 year
  • They wanted to grow veggies and herbs for the kitchen
  • They wanted to create a gathering space in the heart of Footscray 
  • The café was a reconditioned shipping container Café faced North on a residential street

 Construction 


The site was a vacant block in Footscray,  a suburb well known for its multiculturalism and a food destination surrounded by fresh food markets, Vietnamese and African restaurants

  • The clients were young and enthusiastic 
  • They did a lot of work on the café themselves overseeing each step 
  • They didn’t know anything about gardening!  

 After

  • Café opened 2015 – still going
  • Now has a beehive
  • Well loved destination café
  • Plants have survived and thrived!
