Footscray: A Cafe Garden
Rudimentary
Sally Browne Landscapes had the exciting opportunity to collaborate and design a kitchen garden in the heart of Footscray based around a reconditioned shipping container café which faced North on a residential street
The clients wanted to create a café that was relocatable after 5 years with the ability to grow veggies and herbs for the kitchen and to create a gathering space in the heart of Footscray.

Construction
The site was a vacant block in Footscray, a suburb well known for its multiculturalism and a food destination surrounded by fresh food markets, Vietnamese and African restaurants
The clients were young, enthusiastic and did a lot of work on the café themselves, overseeing each step even though they admitted to not knowing anything about gardening!
After
Café opened 2015 and is still going. It now has a beehive and has become a well loved destination cafe. The plants have survived and thrived!
